With the end of 2009 almost upon us, our team have been reflecting on things that have happened over the past year at dBD Communications. You may remember that one of our team, Dan, did a sponsored bike ride in September in aid of Leukeamia research, and in honour of this we have decided not to send Christmas cards to all our customers this year, but instead to make a donation to this valuable charity. We are sure that you will not mind! So in place of a card, may we take this opportunity to share with you below some of the events we remember from 2009 and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hopefully a prosperous year in 2010.

Memories of 2009

2009 pic 1

From top left, February saw heavy snowfalls overnight across large parts of the country causing widespread disruption to transport. Lets hope it doesn't happen next year. On 22nd February Jade Goody was married. She died on 22 March after a 7 month battle with cervical cancer. Her legacy was that many more women now have the simple test to diagnose this illness at its earliest stage. On 13th March Comic Relief raised a record total of £57 million surpassing the previous amount of £17 million. Amazing considering there is a recession, and in May, after a long campaign by Gurhka veterans, supported by Joanna Lumley, the Government announced that all Gurhka veterans who served 4 years or more in the British Army will be allowed to settle in Britain.

Second half of 2009

On 18th July Henry Allingham, the world's oldest known man and one of the last surviving First World War servicemen died at the age of 113, not long after on 25th July, Harry Patch, the last British survivor of the First World War trenches died aged 111. God rest their souls. In September, Britain's largest haul of 1500 pieces of Anglo -Saxon treasure was unveiled having been found beneath a field in Staffordshire. The haul was later valued at £3.3 million!! In more recent news, many towns in Cumbria, Dumfries and Galloway have flooded following several days of heavy rain. Three bridges collapsed, one of them leading to the tragic death of a police officer. Many people will not be spending Christmas in their own homes due to the flooding. We send them our heartfelt wishes.

We will close our office for a well earned rest on 24th December at 16.00 and re-open on 4th January 2009.

From all of us at dBD Communications we hope you have a relaxing break and enjoy the festive period.

Sincerely,

Nicki Purcell
