dBD Communications - Suppliers of RF and Microwave Components
September 2007
Technologies have moved on a great deal today and engineers do not have the time any more to review to the level of detail they did in the past. Trust and speed are two of the main factors the market demands these days as opposed to the lengthy sales trips and meetings conducted previously. Internet purchasing and technical information gathering has been the major driver for "remote selling" with purchasing components and sub systems carried out over the telephone or email. This is reducing the face to face meetings with some negative effects. dBD Communications pride themselves on their friendly, professional service and over the coming months we will be introducing you to members of the dBD Communications team, this month we would like you to meet David O'Connell, our Managing Director.
Rotary Stepped Attenuators

Model RSA - 35110D
Features:
- Wide Frequency Range 0-110dB in 1 dB Steps
- High Accuracy Rate
- Price Competitive
- Flexible Design Configurations

Trilithic's state of the art rotary step attenuators are designed for precision control of signal levels in the DC to 3 GHz range and are offered in a wide choice of values and increments. This design allows for greater automation of assembly.

Application Note for Power Measurement

This is a cost-effective design guide for incorporating precision power measurement components into Digital Transmission Systems. Complex RF Waveforms used in CDMA, DAB, DMB, DTV and HDTV systems require the use of products that employ square-law detection circuits, unlike those required for CW, AM or RM modulated power measurement.
The "Line Sections" are available with either one or two "sockets". A dual socket design allows for both Forward and reflected power measurement, while a single socket would allow one or the other. Within the sockets are inserted the sensors, typically called "elements", that are tuned for a specific Forward or Relected Power range and a Frequency Ban such as 1000 Watts, 500 Watts, 470 to 608 MHz, 614 to 806 MHz and so forth. This focused Power and Frequency Band helps to contribute to a greater overall accuracy compared to broadband measurement systems. There is no separate directional coupler to add to measurement uncertainty, cost or procurement logistics.

Dual Polarity Antennas UHF RFID and ISM Applications

Dual polarity antennas can be very useful for many specialized applications, where traditional patch antennas could be prohibitive. For example for forklift and shelving applications, conveyor applications and other near to mid-field uses. They are also particulary useful where the corresponding tags are in a fixed position with little variation. As such, the antenna can be place to maximize read rates.

Next Edition - 31 October

Next month meet Amanda O'Connell, our Operations Director and read about her role in dBD Communications, and how she spends any greatly valued free time.

Introducing David O'Connell
My involvement in communications goes back to 1979 when I started as a bench technician in Cossor Electronics where transistors were still seen as new technology and silicon and germanium junction comparisons had me studying for hours.
Now with such a fast and furious work environment I like to break away and coach a local youth rugby team. Pressure, but from a different environment as rugby like our industry is changing rapidly. With the company and rugby there is little time to do anything else but where I can I like to catch up with the family and go fishing (fair weather only!!).
